Disturbed Friends??? I have some.. I’m Disturbed too!

Before I get off to the races on the next interesting Kickstarter that’s out there, let me touch on a few that I’ve been following!!

Tiny Epic Galaxies has ended… Hit just over the $400,000 and 12,000 backer mark. Good job! Will be looking forward to getting that one!

Exploding Kittens still has twelve days to go.. And has just over 5.5 million bucks and 140,000 backers! Yikes!

Shadowrun: Hong Kong (the only digital game I’m following at the moment) has over 800k in the bank and nine days to go!

So if you’re looking for any new projects to back that are guaranteed to get you some swag… check out one of the two above! Or the one below!!

So last night as I was going through some new Kickstarter projects, I stumbled upon one called Disturbed Friends. It caught my eye… Seems like a lot of these card based or mini games are bringing me (and tons others, it seems) in. Not that I’m complaining.. 🙂

Think of this new game as an offshoot of Cards Against Humanity (which was a Kickstarter project a long time ago, and I, myself, love the game to death).

The game goes like this – each card has a question, and various answers. The person playing the question cards picks their answer, and then the others have to guess it. And you better believe the questions and answers are both hilarious, dirty, sick, and well.. offensive. Those make for the best kinds of games, right?

You can snag the game for $30 plus shipping right now (there is a $25 early-bird option, so keep an eye out for one to open up). Or go for some of the larger pledge tiers.

It’s definitely worth looking at.  Check it out at the link at the bottom of this post!!

Come to think of it, with all these games being backed.. stay tuned over the course of the next few months for some ‘unboxing’ videos! I do have several up for Golem Arcana.

Running in the Shadows…. Hong Kong style

Well if the title of this post wasn’t a smack in the face to what this post will be talking about.. Today I’ll be discussing Shadowrun: Hong Kong on Kickstarter!

I missed out on the Shadowrun: Returns campaign.. At the time, I wasn’t totally paying attention to digital game projects on Kickstarter. Golem Arcana opened my eyes to the great work that people at Hairbrained Schemes are doing – both digitally and physically. And that’s what opened me up to Shadowrun. As soon as I could, I got it on my iPad and played it. Loved it.

So what is Shadowrun? Depending on your view, it’s an RPG that you can play around the table similar to Dungeons & Dragons (there are a ton of sourcebooks out there!) or it’s a digital video game. It’s been around for years (and by years, I mean around two decades). It’s a futuristic steampunk-like RPG, almost science fiction-like. You can find anything from cybernetics to magic in this universe. The world is in disarray, megacorporations run the show. It’s a pretty interesting theme to delve into – rich and amazing.

Something worth noting for the Shadowrun: Hong Kong Kickstarter Campaign – Unlike other campaigns, or even other ones that HBS has run in the past, S:HK is already fully budgeted by HBS. That means that they have the funds (or funding allocated) to create the game on their end, and if they wanted didn’t need to look for crowdfunding. They did, though, because they want to make a great game an even greater game (even.. epic, might I say?

What does the extra funding from Kickstarter get us?

Great question. Right now, HBS is promising a game that has twelve hours of action packed gameplay. But they want to add more – more characters, better graphics, better mechanics. That’s what your funding will get you.

The nice thing, for $15.00 you can get the digital game once released through Kickstarter! With all of the awesome stretch goals!

There are some pretty awesome pledge tiers if you are wanting to fork over some cash – some of the $100+ tiers have some great physical rewards – such as physical miniatures of characters, a sweet looking ‘courier’ bag.  There’s a little something for everyone, especially if you want to get some physical swag (I, personally, don’t mind just digital rewards).

For me, the stretch goals alone make the game worth backing – while I love a good looking, fun game to play.. I’d back a campaign that promises a highly refined, epic gameplay experience. Each stretch goals just adds more bang for your buck once the game comes out.

Definitely give Shadowrun: Hong Kong a look if you are wanting to back a great computer game! Still more than two weeks to go, with over $725,000 raised so far!

Opening Thoughts…

While the title may say this will be my opening thoughts, it will be abit all over the place. In fairness, this is not my first blog project.. I have had several, spanning various topics over the last five years. But if anything the last year and a half has shown is that there is some value in discussing, analyzing and sharing some awesome Kickstarter project out there. While there will be a focus on the ones I back, and that I get rewards for, there will be times where I review Kickstart campaigns out there that I find awesome but just can’t back (probably for financial reasons… damn money!!).

When I first stumbled across Kickstarter, I hadn’t given it much serious thought. But I found that I would go back from time to time but never actually backed anything. Queue mid 2013…. A number of interesting projects came up, but the first that I actually backed that really excited me was an online Trading Card Game (TCG) called Hex: Shards of Fate… This actually just went to closed Beta, so expect some discussion on this as it goes to Open Beta.

The second, and arguably most exciting project I have backed to date, is Golem Arcana brought to us by a gaming company called Hairbrained Schemes. I got in on this project early on (within the first week), and I immediately fell in love with the game, concept, and company behind the game itself. This project was the one I pledged the most money into, and I should be getting the physical items in July 2014 – I will be doing an official ‘unboxing’ of Golem Arcana once I get it. This will go up on my official YouTube Page (under kickstarter@morin.in).

I do have an item that should be mailed this coming week, a wallet, from a Kickstart campaign. I may do that as my first official ‘unboxing’ video.

At the end of the day, this is a platform to get the word out on some great Kickstarter Campaigns that I find.

That being said… if you have one you want me to check out, drop me an e-mail (kickstarter@morin.in).
